Vimal understands monsters, both those in the corporate world and in the occult.
As the founder of Horror Club KL, Vimal Hatchet Man has organized and participated
in paranormal investigations of Malaysia’s most haunted locations.
A life long horror fan, Vimal has an encyclopedic knowledge of the horror genre in all mediums, film, literature, graphic novels, games and art. He is knowledge enough of the occult and supernatural to conduct supernatural themed tours and events. This relationship with creatures of the dark enables him to understand the target audience of all horror related Intellectual Properties.
Vimal’s experience in the music industry since 1999 has made him a front runner in
choosing and adopting the music that inspires VanVim Studios’ films. From his music industry experience, Vimal understands the importance of sustainable business strategies in developing, producing and distributing creative content.
Vimal also has vast experience of marketing from his time in the banking industry.
He began with experimental horror short films in 2015 and wants to produce quality horror films that establish VanVim Studios as one of South East Asia’s Masters of Horror.

As a child, he learned Robotics in Futurekids and made his own toys from scratch. He learned if he can’t find what he wants he must build it. As a college student, he was one of 16 candidates in Malaysia to be selected by Malaysia’s Satellite Pay TV Channel, Astro, to study Screen Direction at the Australia National Institute of Dramatic Arts.
Although Zain has certificates in Screenwriting, Screen Acting, Film Production and Film Producing from the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) and other organizations, he learned most from real life problem solving.
Zain started as a production assistant on the Malay documentary, 50 Years of Selangor, produced by Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba’s Pesona Pictures Sdn. Bhd in 2007. From editing a Norwegian D-Juice Phone Commercial to shooting promo videos for feature films like ‘Kayangan,’ starring Nur Fazura, Zain has done jobs on all stages of filmmaking.
He’s also acted on Malaysian TV, debuting in telemovie, WiraSiswi, before appearing in Prime Time TV Series like Kaptan Boleh, Geng Bas Sekolah, Radio Gaga, and Ghost.
Zain also competed in Malaysia’s Think You Got Skillz? Freestyle Rap Battle Tournaments until he became Malaysia’s Freestyle Rap Battle champion in 2014. Today, after battling in Canada, UK, Sweden, Australia and the Philippines, Zain Azrai has become the most become the most well-known Malaysian Hip Hop figure in the West. He is also a screen writer with many stories to tell from the rivers of Borneo to the streets of South Africa.
Zain has almost 1,000,000 YouTube views from Western viewers. Years of live performance and acting on TV have helped Zain develop his own style in working with actors on how to develop unique, complex characters.
